Background
I was alerted to this under-appreciated LP from GDM member Rostoned the other week. After locating a copy, and finding some YouTube videos from the album, it's time we add to the Gary Wright tome of progressive rock, albeit working our way forward into the 1980's, a few years after his successful period as a member of British prog band Spooky Tooth and then into his mid 70's solo career.

The Songs
Eric has written some articles on Wright's previous solo material refer here.., though we haven't written about his more successful albums such as 'The Dream Weaver' and 'Mask Of Smiles'. History will show us that Wright's career was in slow decline in the late 70's, however, that's not to say his music was, as shown here on 1981's rather tasty set 'The Right Place'. Tracks like 'Heartbeat', and 'Really Wanna Know You' are fantastic slices of AOR and if there was a smiling God looking down on this Earth, then one or other of these songs should've sailed high into the charts. 'Got The Feelin' and 'Love Is A Rose' and 'Positive Feelins' keep the keyboard quotient high, though these (and other tracks) are pitched with a hint of pop/R&B. Still, quite likeable.

In Summary
This would be Gary's last record for Warner Bros, and he would opt out of music for a few years, though he did appear on a 1986 single called 'Back To The Magic' featuring Laurie Alda which was part of a soundtrack called 'Fire And Ice'. Normal resumption resumed in 1988 with the album 'Who I Am' for Cypress Records (refer also Wendy Waldman, Michael Damian, Jennifer Warnes, Jesse Colin Young and Kenny Rogers Jnr), plus several intermitent releases up to the current day. If you like outrageous keyboard oriented pop/rock from the late 70's and early 80's, then 'The Right Place' should be on your list. Unfortunately, the 2008 Wounded Bird is long out of print, but good luck in your search on Ebay.

'Really Wanna Know You' was a hit here in the states, his last.
