Background
I definitely like the sound of this newish Swedish band Creye. Formed in 2015, it is based around guitarist Andreas Gullstrand, but the guy who is probably best known here is former Diamond Dawn singer Alexander Strandell, who was probably the pick of that bunch, and he seems to have landed on both feet with Creye. This is a three track EP, following on from last year's single release 'Never Too Late', which gets a re-hearing on this EP.

The Songs
If you like Scandi AOR like it used to be, then Creye are the bomb! This really is very good, and if the job of this EP is to be taster of things to come, then bring on the main, dessert and after dinner mints - thank you very much. Opener 'Straight To The Top' is wickedly good, with glorious keys and a mind-bending bass line pump for good measure. There's no respite as 'Never Too Late' continues the Creye line of attack, while the third track is none other than 'No Easy Way Out', written by Robert Tepper and covered by numerous artists in the past. It's a very faithful rendition too I might add, sounding so close to the original. Well done, chaps.

In Summary
As I said before, if this is a teaser for a full length feature yet to be released, then the job is well and truly done. When it arrives, you can be assured it will be one of the most anticipated releases of 2017. Can't wait!

That's an interesting combo I've been following for a while now and was initially blown away by "never too late" uploaded on YouTube by the band themselves .

However, I can't get into the "no easy way out" version (Platens by comparison did a better one a few years ago). It's something with the vocals which overall I believe are the weakest link in the chain for Creye. I'm not saying they are bad but they certainly are not at the same level with the rest of the band. Also, having a killer guitarist like Andre Theander playing the rhythm guitar is a rather weird thing the least to say, even if Andre - from what I see from the personnel listed above- is not included in the band's credits anymore. Nor is Linus.

Anyway, I'm eagerly anticipating a full length release from these guys and just hope the vocals won't kill it for me like they did in the "Care of night" case.

Creye have a new singer. Robin Jidhed, son of Jim Jidhed. As announced on Facebook just recently.

Hope he's better than the one on the EP.

Alexander Strandell is with Art Nation, who's new album 'Liberation' is out.

I know... I didn't quite like Art Nation either despite the hype. Apart from ''start a fire'' which was killer I found the rest of the songwriting rather indifferent. They sounded to me like another bunch of H.E.A.T wannabes but without the effortless talent.
