This debut and the subsequent album 'Helluva Band' were to be the last of Angel's pomp pretensions before they moved in a more radio friendly direction. Needless to say both albums should be considered essential purchases for anyone wanting to discover the pomp rock genre.
The debut Angel album still rates highly with many of us, less talked about is the follow up 'Helluva Band'. produced by Derek Lawrence, who also worked on the debut Legs Diamond album around the same time, this is arguably Angel's most progressive album..
Despite having reservations at the outset, I have to say some of this album was likeable. Maybe if they hadn't gone in under the Angel monicker, I wouldnt have had heart plapitaations beforehand. Nonetheless, if you like a bit of melodic rock that fuses Led Zeppelin, Kingdom Come and Masters Of The Airwaves, then 'In The Beginning' deserves a listen.
Due to Angel's light having faded many decades ago to the general public, I'm thinking that this album is going to have limited appeal. Despite that, old fogies like most of us here will still be ok with that, however the young brigade will have no idea.
The name Punky Meadows should really not need any introduction here on GDM. Punky has finally emerged from the shadows for this his first solo album and the first recorded material from the man in some 35 years.
