The songs themselves are classy affairs, hooky and riffy at the same time, with big choruses, and laser like guitar solos. Just the way I like it. Some of the influences which came to my mind include Fastway (Lea Hart era), Heartland, and Sam Blue's Ya Ya. All English bands too, though playing a style which is distinctly non-English.
This is one of those albums where if you like the first song, you're going to love the album. This is all the more impressive when spread over twelve tracks, so I can confidently say that any AOR collection would be stronger for it's inclusion.
Without question, it's pretty easy to tell where Steve Newman's heart and mind resides when it comes to good music. This guy lives in the center-lane of melodic rock! Getting him to swerve to either side would be like asking David Beckham to open the bowling for the England Cricket team!
When word filtered through that his latest album 'Siren' was worthy of a look and listen, I jumped on the bandwagon. Like previous albums, Steve does most of the work here, and the guitar lines in particular are a real stand-out. Sharp and incisive, but melodic to the core. And how about that cover?
